Dressing for the winter is easy – you pile on the layers and hope that’s enough to keep out the cold. The same goes for the summer – cool, lightweight fabrics in bright colors are the normal order of the day. But what about those in-between seasons when the weather is unpredictable and isn’t behaving itself?
Transitional dressing doesn’t have to be a headache, as a something as simple as a cardigan can be used to make all your sartorial problems go away. A classic jumpsuit is great for the spring/summer months. It’s on-trend, it allows you to move freely, and best of all, the layering and accessorizing possibilities are virtually endless, especially if you choose a neutral color like black.
Have a bright or floral headscarf you want to try out? It will go perfectly. Dying to try out those gorgeous new sandals? Not a problem! Unsure whether it’s going to get chilly later on in the day/are going somewhere with unpredictable heating or air-conditioning? Grab your cardigan and go!
We don’t think cardigans get as much credit as they deserve. Take the one on the left for example. Not only does it add color, versatility and texture to a dress or jumpsuit, for example, but it turns it into a perfectly executed ensemble as opposed to just something to throw on.
Of course cardigans can come in all shapes, colors, fabrics and sizes, but there’s something almost mesmerizing about the dusty pink color Summer Albarcha is rocking. The juxtaposition of the light and dark makes the look very attention-grabbing in a subtle, chic and modest way. And we love the addition of the cream colored headscarf. If this doesn’t scream “I’m ready for summer” then we don’t know what else will!
If you want to make your cardigan and specially selected headscarf pop, keep the rest of your outfit simple and monochromatic, just like Summer Albarchahas demonstrated in the picture.
If you really want to change things up and go more elegant on the other hand, may we suggest forgoing the black cross-body bag and opting for a classy Hamsa wristlet? Perfect for lipstick and all those other girly essentials!
And we know we mentioned wearing a cardigan with a dress or jumpsuit, but wearing a hip-length one with a pair of jeans or a jazzy pair of printed trousers makes for a great casual, off-duty look. Add some high heels to take the look from daytime to evening in under thirty seconds.
Alternatively, you can flip everything around and go for a bright or floral dress or jumpsuit, and layer up with a black cardigan to tone everything down. The possibilities are endless!
Do you love the cardigan as much as we do? How do you like to style yours?
